An alternating sign matrix is a square matrix in which each entry is -1, 0 or 1, and along each row and column the nonzero entries alternate in sign, starting and ending with a 1. Many intriguing results for the enumeration of such matrices have been obtained using connections with the statistical mechanical six-vertex model. In this talk, I will review some of these results for unrestricted alternating sign matrices, and for alternating sign matrices which are invariant under certain symmetry operations.

Roger Behrend, 英国卡迪夫大学教授,博士毕业于澳大利亚墨尔本大学。主要研究领域是代数组合和计数组合,2019年获得美国数学协会颁发的Robbins奖,主要结果发表在《Adv. Math.》,《J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A》等期刊上。
