New second-order optimality conditions for set-constrained optimization problems

In this talk we present some new second-order optimality conditions for a very general set-constrained optimization problem where the underlying set may be nononvex. Utilizing the classical and/or the lower generalized support function, we obtain new second-order necessary and sufficient conditions via both the corresponding asymptotic second-order tangent cone and outer second-order tangent set. Our necessary optimality conditions do not require convexity and/or nonemptiness of the second-order tangent set and our sufficient conditions do not require convexity and/or nonemptiness of the second-order tangent set and the second-order regularity of the underlying set as required in the classical result. These are important improvements to the classical results in the literature since the second-order tangent set can be nonconvex and empty even when the set is convex and the second-order regularity is a very difficult condition to check.

叶娟娟(Jane J.Ye),加拿大维多利亚大学数学与统计学院教授,优化领域的国际知名专家,主要研究方向是非光滑优化和双层规划。她与合作者发表论文逾百篇,其中大部分发表在SIAM Journal on Optimization,Mathematical Programming,Mathematics of Operations Research,SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization等优化领域顶级刊物,被引用4644次,H-index指标38。曾长期担任国际期刊SIAM Journal on Optimization、Mathematics of Operations Research和Set-valued and Variational Analysis的编辑,目前仍是SIAM Journal on Optimization的在任编辑。叶娟娟教授从1992年至今一直获得加拿大国家科学基金,是2015年Krieger–Nelson奖的获得者,该奖项由加拿大数学会颁发给杰出的女性数学研究者。
