内容摘要:
In the last few years numerous 20+ year old problems in the geometry of Banach spaces were solved. Some are described herein.
个人简介:
William B. Johnson is a Distinguished Professor and A. G. & M. E. Owen Chair of Mathematics at Texas A&M University. His research lies in the theory of Banach space, a branch of functional analysis. As a world leading expert in the field, he has edited four books including two volumes of Handbook of the Geometry of Banach Spaces, written more than 130 scholarly papers, many of which were published in top journals such as J. Amer. Math. Soc., Acta Math. and Ann. Math. He also served on the editorial board of eight renowned journals including Transactions and Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society (1982-1987), Geometric and Functional Analysis (1990-2001) and Mathematische Annalen (2000-2011).
The influence of Professor Johnson’s work goes beyond the scope of functional analysis. One of his best known result is the celebrated Johnson-Lindenstrauss Lemma, named after him and Joram Lindenstrauss, which has been found to have many applications in different areas such as compress sensing and theoretical computer science. Due to his remarkable achievement in Banach space theory, he winned the prestigious Stefan Banach Medal from the Polish Academy of Sciences in 2007. In 2013, he was named as Inaugural Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. He was also invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians 2018 (ICM 2018) held in São Paulo.
