Abstract: It is well known that there can be an optimal upper bound for the accuracy of approximating smooth functions with piecewise polynomials of at most certain degree, but in practice, all finite element scheme can not achieve this theoretical upper bound. It is naturally of theoretical importance to investigate the construction of optimal finite element schemes, while surprisingly optimal schemes are absent in even some familiar friendly settings. In this talk, we introduce low-degree optimal finite element schemes for several fundamental model problems. The main technical ingredient is to construct finite element complexes. These schemes can practically bring convenience into the computation of source eigenvalue problems.
Speaker Introduction:2008年博士毕业于北京大学,2008-2009年在美国宾州州立大学做博士后研究,2009年至今在中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院工作,其中2014年至今在计算数学与科学工程计算研究所任副研究员。主要从事有限元方法和多水平方法的研究,近期研究兴趣为弹性力学和电磁学中高阶问题的结构性方法,在SIAM J. Numer. Anal.等国际知名期刊发表数十篇高水平论文。
