Abstract: In this talk, we present some Lagrange-Galerkin schemes for flow problems. The Lagrange-Galerkin method is a finite element method combined with the method of characteristics, is one of the most powerful numerical methods. After introducing the basic idea of the method of characteristics, i.e., the so-called material derivative is discretized along the trajectory of fluid particle, we present theoretical numerical results for convection-diffusion, Navier-Stokes, two-fluid flow problems.
Speaker Introduction:Hirofumi Notsu is a professor in Kanazawa University. He got PhD degree in mathematics in 2009 in Kyushu University, Japan. After that he became postdoctoral researcher in AIST Meiji University respectively, then he joined Waseda University in 2011 moved to Kanazawa University in 2016. Now he is a full professor in Kanazawa University. His research interest focuses on computational fluid-structure interaction flow simulation. Now he has published about 25 papers some of them are published in JFM, JSC and ESAIM: M2AN, et al.
