Abstract:
What does it mean to classify the modular representations of a finite group? The talk will begin with a gentle introduction to modular representations of finite groups, in the spirit of famous algebraists from the last century like Emmy Noether and Richard Brauer. For example, we will see a simple criterion for finite representation type. Then I will explain some modern approaches involving cohomological support, which leads to a stratification of the category of representations, similar in spirit to Quillen's stratification of group cohomology.
Speaker Introduction:
Henning Krause is a Professor of Mathematics in Bielefeld University and Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. He was also a guest professor of University of Science and Technology of China. Professor Krause serves as an Editorial board member of many famous journals, such as Advances in Mathematics, Documenta Mathematica, Applied Categorical Structures, Algebras and Representation Theory, and Science China Mathematics.
Professor Krause has made important research achievements in many aspects, including stratifying modular representations of finite group schemes, (co) localizing theory on triangulated categories, stable equivalence on categories and so on. Professor Krause has published more than hundred papers in top journals, including J. Amer. Math. Soc., Invent. Math., Ann. of Math. etc. He has also published several books on representation theory so far. Professor Krause has made outstanding contributions to the exchanges and cooperation between China and Germany in the field of representation theory.
