Abstract:

Due to the complex composition of oil and gas resources, reservoir engineers need to use different mathematical models when describing the properties of crude oil. In addition to the commonly used black oil model, there are also a variety of component models, such as the constant equilibrium coefficient K-model, the EOS equation for component model, etc. Some complex oil displacement technologies are often numerically simulated based on the framework of component models, such as polymer oil displacement agents, surfactant oil displacement agents, alkali oil displacement agents, microbial oil displacement agents, and low salinity water flooding. Some fluid motions in porous media, such as the burial of carbon dioxide, the treatment of groundwater pollution, and the exploitation of geothermal resources, can also be simulated using component models. These important applications make the composition model gradually become an important research direction of reservoir numerical simulation, but the composition model has many variables, complex equations, and larger computations. We build a fast solution method and its open-source software platform based on a general component model framework for parallel computer architectures. We will discuss industrial applications, physical background, mathematical models, discrete methods, fast solutions, parallel computing, and software development of multicomponent flow mechanics.
