Abstract:

This talk is an illustration of how the speaker teaches trigonometric functions such as their definition, continuity, and differentiability, this semester to a group of smart students at Shandong University. The first step is to introduce the qualitative concept of rectifiable curves then prove that monotonic curves are of this property via the least upper bound property of the real number system. A decisive part of our approach is inspired by K. Kodaira’s discussions of clockwise rotational transformation. Part of this work was collaborated with Nicolas Fardin.
