Abstract:

Langlands duality represents a profound connection between two seemingly unrelated mathematical structures. In this work with David Nadler and Zhiwei Yun, we explore how this duality enhances our understanding of the classical problem concerning commuting pairs of matrices. Specifically, we demonstrate that the polynomial functions on such pairs can be computed using the Whittaker object in the cocenter of the affine Hecke category. Additionally, we will survey analogous instances of Langlands duality in number theory and mathematical physics.
