Abstract:

We start the talk from the notion of heights of algebraic numbers. We then review the Weil height machine, height of elliptic curves and its Néron-Tate decomposition, together with the famous Gross-Zagier formula. Moving to general varieties or motives, we introduce the notion of Beilinson-Bloch height. Finally, we explain our main results on the computation of central L-derivatives of automorphic forms of general ranks in terms of such height.
