Abstract:

The boson-fermion correspondence is a classical result in mathematical physics that relates two very different concepts, which in terms of mathematics is an isomorphism between an infinite wedge space and a polynomial ring in infinitely many variables as Heisenberg Lie algebra representations. This gives a method to construct Schur functions and prove a number of identities using a fairly simple calculus. In this talk, we will present a new inhomogeneous deformation of this correspondence by using shifted powers and show that we obtain the factorial Schur functions and a number of identities. This is based on joint work with Daniel Bump and Andrew Hardt.
